BioBorn Shaoling in the Fong house, Soi grew up in a fairly sheltered environment. From a very young age, she was shown the princess of the Shihouin family, the family which for generations the Fongs had defended. It was that day that her name was taken from her, and she would be known as Soi Fong. Everything she did growing up was in order to uphold her family’s honor, and to attain the right to protect the princess. As she grew, so did her respect for the princess, and she eventually developed a bit of an infatuation with her. By the time she had graduated from the academy, she was a strong fighter, though heavily lacking in her social skills outside of being polite. Because of her talents in combat, she was noticed by Yoruichi during a training session, and was personally selected to serve as part of her guard. After that, she continued to grow, both physically and emotionally, as Yoruichi turned out to be the one person she managed to bond with. (Though the nature of this bond would be discussed by players before-hand, since there can be different interpretations that are canon)
Now me personally I think Yoruichi and Soi ought to be in a relationship and always thought they’d be great together…but that‘s a “lets see” thing so far. I just don’t think Soi’s infatuation is one sided - I think it’s reciprocated, but Yoruichi just isn’t the traditional girlfriend.
When she found one day that Yoruichi had left, she was devastated, though she did not show it for very long. She sealed up her emotions and gave everything to becoming stronger, almost deluding herself to think that she hated Yoruichi and wanted to claim her titles and the honor she lost by leaving. This drove her to the point that she eventually attained the positions of captain of the Special Forces and 2nd Division. She was a cool, collected leader, and though she was strict with rules and would personally punish those who acted against them, she was not entirely inhuman, and was respected highly by all of her subordinates.
Yoruichi’s return was a shock, Soi had wanted the satisfaction of hunting her former commander herself, but the clash of their fight brought out her true desires. All she wanted was to find Yoruichi - find her and ask her why. It was that question that drove her so hard over the century. But her drive didn’t end with Yoruichi’s return; instead of a fervent desire to become strong and hunt down her princess, she felt the old feeling of wanting to prove herself. Yoruichi was around with Urahara, nearly a hero, with that Ichigo ryoka, and the burning desire to prove herself to Yoruichi-sama was overwhelming. Soi wasn’t just a little bee anymore, she definitely had a sting, and for a year she did her best to prove it.
